October 3rd (Saturday) - 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Beading Open House - led by Liz Carlstrom Stop in any time with your child during the beading open house and make a necklace, bracelet, or backpack dangle. The class is free, and there is no need to register. This multi-generational class is provided through a grant from Greater Lake City Community Foundation. See linked poster.
October 12th (Monday) - 6:30 PM. Painting your Inner Strength: A guided creative tour with Anderson Center Resident Artist, Simona Ledl. This workshop will combine playful introductory exercises, a short guided visualization and an intuitive painting process. Participants will reflect on the question, “What gives me strength?” and create a personal artwork using acrylics inspired by a place, image, or feeling that supports and nourishes them. Register for this free class (limited to 12 participants), and enjoy an evening of creation and discussion. This class is at the LCAA, Poster coming soon.
October 17th (Saturday) - 9:00 am. - 12:30. Kumihimo Japanese Braiding - Instructor Nancy Beckert. Consecutive Saturdays, October 17th & 24th from 9:00 am. to 12:30 pm. During our Textile exhibit, we've scheduled textile/fiber arts related classes and Kumihimo Japanese Braiding is one of them. Check out the example in our gallery. In Nancy’s class you will learn Kumihimo braiding, a traditional Japanese technique of braiding strands of silk to create intricately colored cords. Beads will be incorporated into the braiding. Students will take home their creations - a necklace and a bracelet as well as a tool to allow future works on their own. Class fee is $50 and all supplies are provided. October 18th (Sunday) - 2:00 - 3:30 pm. - Sweet Potato Flatbread Class - Instructors Suzie Spain and Karen Smith. Cost: $5. Class size limited to 15. Join this inter-generational cooking class subsidized by the Greater Lake City Community Foundation. Preregistration is required. Link to poster.
October 24th (Saturday) - 9:00 am. - noon. Kumihimo Japanese Braiding - Instructor Nancy Beckert. This is the 2nd of 2 consecutive Saturdays, October 17th & 24th. You'll be finishing up your Kumihimo braiding creations - - a necklace and a bracelet as well as a tool to allow future works on their own. See description above on Oct. 17th.
October 24th (Saturday) - 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Beginner Dry Felting - Adorable Cat - Instructor Svetlanan (Lana) Kartak. Cost: $20 for members, $25 for non-members. During our Textile exhibit, we've scheduled textile/fiber arts related classes and the dry felting class is one of them. Create a cute felted calico cat using the dry felting method. This is a beginners felting class and all supplies are provided. The class is intended for ages 15 thru adult, and all supplies are provided. Pre-registration is required and class size is limited to 10. The cost of this class is subsidized by funds from the City of Lake City. Poster coming soon.
October 24th (Saturday) - 11:00 am. - 1 pm. Decorate a Kid's Halloween Mask - led by Art Orth. As part of the "Halloween Haunt for Kids" , LCAA will host a Halloween Mask Decorating station. This free event takes place at Underwood Park from 11 am. - 1 pm.
October 26th (Monday) - 6:30 pm. Memento Moiri Painting: A Guided Creative Tour with Anderson Center Resident Artist Jazz Szu-Ying Chen. Registration required for this free class and class is limited to 12 participants. Jazz will lead students thru a painting technique using dip pens and acrylic paint on gold foiled painting boards from Japan. Through this workshop, students will gain an understanding about the historical context of "wunderkammers," explore the combination of different drawing media, develop techniques for controlling water-based paint, and experience working on traditional Chinese and Japanese painting boards. Every Wednesday - through November - 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Hand drumming class - instructor: Cheri Bunker. Join us the third Wednesday of each month thru November for a fun and energizing one-hour free style hand drumming class for age 16 and older. No experience is needed—just an open heart and a willingness to play! In this freestyle drumming session, you’ll explore simple rhythms, express yourself through sound, and connect with others in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to boost your mood, improve coordination, or simply try something new, this class offers a joyful way to move, create, and be part of a rhythmic community.
